Why Companion exists.
Companion began from my own experience as a veteran, during military service and through the transition to civilian life.
Support systems existed, but I experienced a gap between structured services and the reality of everyday life. Difficult moments did not always happen during appointments or in structured settings. They happened in real time, when an immediate space to reflect, organize thoughts, or express what was happening was not always available.
One of the biggest challenges was expression. At times, it was difficult to clearly communicate thoughts or emotions because of language, emotional state, uncertainty about where to begin, or simply not having the right words in the moment.
Over time, I realized this was not only my experience. Many people face barriers involving access, language, expression, timing, and readiness when trying to make sense of what they are experiencing.
